Da Nang residents now can access medical examination and treatment at any hospitals or other medical facilities across the city without carrying their paper health insurance cards but they are only required to provide their card numbers for hospital staff to find their data in the national medical system. Patients can install health app on their smartphones to track and manage their medical records. A smart hospital model is being used in the Lien Chieu District Medical Center, bringing great benefits to its patients.

Digital applications

According to Mr. Tran Ngo Quoc Tri from the Lien Chieu District Medical Center, the healthcare facility’s doctors still issue a paper prescription for their patients after they undergo medical examination but their paper prescriptions will be entered into the national electronic prescription system. From here, patients only need to use their account identifier to log into the national electronic prescription system to track and manage their medications.

Currently, Lien Chieu District Medical Center is using software tools to provide medical examination and treatment services, including test management, imaging management, electronic medical record system, citizen health management system, and cashless payment service. The use of software tools helps the facility easily manage its medical examination and treatment activities, as well as store patients’ data so that doctors can release correct diagnosis and treatment protocol for their patients to help them receive better, faster treatment and care. In addition, patients enjoy benefits from the facility’s digital applications as the facility delivers timely and convenient access to health services for its patients with a focus on reducing waiting time and helping them track their medical history and their treatment process.

High level of patients’ sastifaction

Currently, more than 80% of the Lien Chieu District Medical Center’s total patients use level 4 online public services to book their medical examination and treatment appointments. Recent survey results showed that the satisfaction level of inpatients and outpatients reached 99.2%  and 99.6% respectively.

Doctor Nguyen Dai Vinh, the Director of the Lien Chieu District Medical Center said that the facility is focusing on building a patient database system to provide better medical examination and treatment services for its patients, using digital signatures, creating and maintaining electronic administrative records, and boosting digital applications, thereby, shortening waiting time, improving service quality, and increase patients’ satisfaction.

"The building of a smart hospital is part of the Lien Chieu District Medical Center’s efforts to improve administrative reforms in a bid to provide the best possible health care services for patients, and build trust in them," said Doctor Vinh.

The Lien Chieu District Medical Center is developing a project to assess the current situation and demand for telehealth services from local residents. The research results will be the basis for the facility to create its strategies to improve the quality of its healthcare services and increase local people's access to medical examination and treatment services at the facility in the coming time.
