Due to the effects of prolonged heavy rain last December, many hectares of vegetables in the La Huong vegetable growing area in Cam le District’s Hoa Tho Dong Ward were destroyed.
In recent days, many vegetable growers in this area have taken advantage of dry weather condition to gear up their production in order to serve their customers over the upcoming Tet Festival.
Farmers are seen busy working at the La Huong vegetable growing area to ensure sufficient supplies for their customers for Tet. The photos were taken by our photographers Xuan Son and Kha Thinh.
Nestled near the Cam Le River, the 10ha La Huong vegetable growing area provides around 500 tonnes of vegetables to local residents per year. In recent years, this area has been one of the city’s dedicated organic vegetable growing areas, meeting the Viet Nam Good Agricultural Practices (VietGap) standards. |
The prolonged heavy rain last December caused damage worth over 350 million VND to the vegetable growing area. |
As soon as the flood waters receded, over 50 vegetable growers in the city started to clean up, turn over the soil and sow seeds to plant such short-day vegetables as cabbages and spinach. |
Such short-day vegetables can be harvested after between 25 and 30 days of planting. |
Meanwhile, long-day fruits and vegetables such as cauliflower, green chilies and salad can only be harvested after about 60 days of planting. |
