As recorded by author Dang Dung in the book "Nam O and Its Tales" (Da Nang Publishing House, 2022), the Nam O Rock Reef was originally a small, low-lying mountain extending from west to east (protruding from the mainland into the sea) for approximately 500 metres, covered with ancient trees. Over time, ocean waves eroded the base of the mountain, forming the rock reef.
The moss season at the Nam O Rock Reef is at its most beautiful from late 12th lunar moth to just after Tet (Lunar New Year), when the rocks are densely covered in lush green moss, creating a striking natural carpet.
