Russian naval ships arrive in city

On Wednesday afternoon, 3 Russian naval ships docked at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port to begin a 4-day courtesy visit to the city.  They are the destroyer Bystry, the oil tanker Boris Butoma, and the rescue vessel Altai, all commanded by Rear Admiral Yuldashev Aleksandr Yurevich.

During his reception on the same day for Rear Admiral Yurevich, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the numerous cooperative programmes between Russia and Da Nang over recent years.

On behalf of the city’s authorities and people, Vice Chairman Minh took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude to the Russian government for their active support for Da Nang, and for Viet Nam as a whole.  He said he hoped that the visit would help to further foster the friendly bilateral ties between the navies of the 2 countries.

In reply, Rear Admiral Yurevich said that he and his crew members were very impressed with the city’s rapid growth.  He expressed his hope that the bilateral friendship with Da Nang, and Viet Nam in general, would be deepened in the years ahead.

During their 4-day stay in the city, the 315 officers and crew members aboard the 3 ships will visit some of the city’s popular tourist attractions and participate in sports exchange activities with their colleagues from the Zone 3 Naval High Command.  In addition, Russian naval officers will lay a wreath at the city's 2 September Peace Monument and pay courtesy visits to leaders of the High Commands of Military Zone 5, and Naval Zone 3. 

The Sovremenny-class destroyer Bystry (715) is the principal anti-surface warship of the Russian Navy.  The 156m-long and 17.3m-wide destroyer has a total displacement of 7,940 tons and can sail at a top speed of 32.7 nautical miles per hour.  It is equipped with 8 Moskit SSM P-270 anti-ship missile launch tubes, 48 Shtil SAM air defence missile launch tubes, 4 139mm AK-130-MR-184 double-barreled guns, and 4 30mm AK-630 multi-barreled machine guns.  It also carries 8 torpedoes, 2 RBU-1000 anti-submarine rocket launchers and a Ka-27 Helix helicopter.
