During his reception for some of the Da Nang leaders on Sunday, the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Party Committee, Mr Dinh La Thang, remarked that the visit would help to further deepen the bilateral cooperation between the 2 cities in order to promote the country’s progress.

Secretary Thang said “HCMC is a key urban area which plays a vital role in promoting the country’s socio-economic development, whilst Da Nang is a leading locality in the central region.  Therefore, the 2 cities should share their valuable experiences and their innovative practices which are suitable for the strengths of each locality in order to further their growth.”

On behalf of his city’s leaders, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh thanked the HCMC authorities for their warm welcome.  He took the opportunity to ask HCMC to share their practical experiences in promoting the development of modern urban areas, underground and overhead public transport systems, education and other aspects.  Secretary Anh expressed his hope that HCMC would help Da Nang to appeal for more local businesses to invest in the city to boost its economic growth.

Leaders of the 2 cities also discussed some issues relating to how to attract more FDI inflows, development of a green tree network, and environmental protection.

During the morning of the same day, the Da Nang Fellow Countrymen’s Association in HCMC held a get-together for their fellow countrymen who are studying, working and living there.  Present at the event were Secretary Anh, municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, and local People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho.

The Chairman of the Association, Mr Nguyen Van Dau, highlighted the active involvement of his association in promoting the city’s economic growth last year.  This has included appealing for many successful entrepreneurs to invest a total of around 300 billion VND in the city, and establishing a Da Nang Fellow Businesspeople Club in order to promote efficient investment in the city.

He remarked “The association has been actively involved in charitable activities in the city.  These have included offering free medical examinations, treatment and medicines to poor people, giving financial aid and gifts to local disaster victims, and raising money for the local Fund for the Poor and the Study Encouragement Fund”.

On behalf of the Da Nang leaders, Secretary Anh praised the Association for its great efforts towards the city’s progress over recent years.  He also said he hopes that Da Nang fellow countrymen will continue their efforts to make Da Nang a more civilised, modern and liveable city.
