The Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, recently played host to a group of representatives of the World Bank (WB).  Also present at the reception were experts from the Hansen Partnership and Martyn Group, consultants assigned by WB to conduct a pre-feasibility study of a project to relocate Da Nang railway station and associated urban redevelopment.

A representative from the consultants suggested that the local authorities should choose railway station relocation plan 1A to match the city’s future overall development planning.  He remarked, “Under the plan, the new railway station will consist of both passenger and freight terminals.  The 33ha passenger terminal will be located in Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Minh Ward, whilst the 25ha freight terminal will be in the district’s Hoa Hiep Nam Ward”.

He added, “The new location will easily link with the future national high-speed railway routes which have been approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport, and the soon-to-be-built Lien Chieu Port.  The site of the existing railway station will be used for the development of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system which will help the city deal with traffic congestion”.

In reply, Vice Chairman Tuan agreed with the proposed project and affirmed that it is one of the city’s most important projects.  He took the opportunity to ask the consultants to focus on improving the link between the new railway station and local key public transport systems, especially in the inner city, including a tunnel underneath the Han River.
