City leaders host APEC delegates

On Wednesday, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Truong Quang Nghia played host to the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Mr Jin Liqun, who is attending the ongoing APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) in the city.

Secretary Nghia proudly remarked that Da Nang now has the fastest pace of urbanisation in Viet Nam.  Most notably, the city has topped the Viet Nam Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), the Provincial Public Administration Reform Index (PAR INDEX), and the Viet Nam Information and Communications Technology (ICT) applications and development readiness rankings over recent years.

The city’s Party chief said that his locality is appealing for investment from both home and aboard in such future key large-scale projects as the expansion of the Da Nang International Airport, the relocation of the city’s railway station, the deep-sea Lien Chieu Port and urban infrastructure projects in the western part of the city.  Therefore, the city leader asked for help from AIIB to consider cooperating with the city to implement these projects, thereby assisting to boost the city’s growth in the years ahead.

In reply, President Jin affirmed that his visit to Viet Nam aims to consider the deployment of urban infrastructure development projects in this country, and that Da Nang is one of AIIB’s priority partners.

In particular, the visiting guest showed AIIB’s willingness to cooperate with the city to deploy projects mentioned above.

During his reception on the same day for Ms Maria Laarni Lopez Cayetano, the Mayoress of Taguig City in the Philippines, People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho highlighted the similarities between his city and Taguig, and the Philippines as a whole, in geographical positions and socio-economic development features.  Thanks to this, Chairman Tho confirmed his city’s willingness to establish bilateral relationships and multi-faceted cooperation with Filipino localities for mutual interest.

In her remarks, Ms Cayetano dubbed Da Nang as a liveable city in Viet Nam, and in the world as whole. 

She also noted that the ongoing APEC Week would be greatly successful, and this would help the city attract more international investors from across the world in the future years.

The Filipino guest underlined the importance of boosting bilateral experience exchanges between the 2 cities to enhance the performance of their governments, and to promote climate change and natural disaster mitigation. 

She also took the opportunity to ask the Da Nang authorities to facilitate Filipino people who are living and working in this seaside city, thereby helping to strengthen bilateral cooperative ties between Da Nang and her city.
