Da Nang boosts socio-economic recovery with flexible adaptation to COVID-19

For the rest of this tough year, Da Nang will do its utmost to issue new socio-economic recovery plans with safe and flexible adaptation to COVID-19. This important goal was highlighted by municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang at a meeting with other municipal leaders held on Tuesday.

The city's Party chief underlined a need to tighten the supervision of all returnees from pandemic-stricken localities nationwide in a bid to keep the city free from the virus sourced outside.

In particular, functional forces will complete the administration of the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines to all local people aged 18 and above by December in parallel with launching the first-ever vaccination against this highly contagious disease for those aged 12 - 17 under the guidance of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health with ultimate safety ensured.

In the immediate future, greater efforts will be exerted to remove any difficulties and obstacles, speed up procedures and clearly build up a specific roadmap for the implementation of such key projects as the Lien Chieu mega-port and the Lang Van tourism and resort complex, and other social welfare projects.

Another task is to accelerate the progress of State budget collections and continue to effectively implement the ‘2021- the year of restoring growth and promoting economic development’ landmark objective with heed paid to stepping up investment promotion in the fields of high technology and information technology.

According to municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh, the economic recovery scenarios will be developed during the remaining months of this year and early next year. At that time, a number of services and domestic and international tourism activities will resume their operations in the city. 
In particular, favourable conditions will created for domestic migrant workers to come back to Da Nang for job opportunities during the post-pandemic time.

According to a report released by municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, the negative impacts of COVID-19 which started to rage on in May has led to a sharp decline in the city’s GRDP during the January – September period as compared to the same period last yea, with the service sector hit hardest by  the coronavirus blows.

As for the city’s economic situation in the January – September period, revenue generated from accommodation and travel services is estimated to decrease by 31.3% as compared to the same period last year and the retail sales of goods is predicted to go by 5.6%.

The export turnover is estimated at US$1,306 million, up 14.9%. Earnings from transportation, warehousing and transportation support services is likely to climb by 6.3% and the industrial production index (IIP) is projected to down 4.16%.

The total state budget revenue is likely to have estimated at VND15,050 billion, equal to 69.1% of the estimate assigned by the municipal People’s Council.
