2022 designated 'Year of safe and flexible adaptation, effective control of COVID-19, and driving socio-economic recovery

On Monday, the Da Nang Party Committee’s Executive Board held a meeting to review the its performance over the past year and identify its key tasks for 2022.

Delivering his opening speech at the meeting, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee cum Head of the city’s National Assembly Deputies’ Delegation Nguyen Van Quang said that 2021 was a very tough year for Da Nang as the COVID-19 pandemic became more complicated, which had certain effects on the city’s socio-economic development and the life of local habitants. However, with the highest efforts and strongest determination, political systems at grassroots levels fulfilled their assigned political tasks.

The city Party chief remarked the city's socio-economic situation in the year remained basically stable, with its State budget collection representing more than 97.9% of the municipal People’s Council's estimates.

Exports by domestic businesses increased by 15.4% compared to a year earlier, especially in the field of software imports and exports (software export turnover in 2021 rose by 6.3%, contributing more than 8% of the city’s total regional domestic product (GRDP).

However, Secretary Quang frankly acknowledged that the implementation of some programmes and plans during 2021 was still slow or interrupted, and some targets were not achieved. In addition, the life of a part of people who are manual labourers still faced many difficulties, whilst the operation of city-based businesses was not stable.

The city leader asked the delegates to propose some groups of tasks, solutions and specific contents that need to be implemented in 2022, especially in the context of the complicated resurgence of Covid-19, in order to drive the city’s socio-economic growth in tandem with basically containing the pandemic.

In his remarks at the event, Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet said, in 2021, despite being heavily impacted by COVID-19, the city promoted the tradition of solidarity and bravery to basically control the pandemic, minimize the loss of life and health of local residents, and ensure social welfare.

Moreover, the city actively cooperated with national agencies to make suggestions to the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly and the national government to adjust a number of important regulations, schemes, mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs for the city’s growth next time.

Deputy Secretary Triet remarked that 2022 will be designated the ‘Year of safe and flexible adaptation, effective control of COVID-19, and socio-economic recovery and development’.

Accordingly, the city will set specific targets. In detail, Da Nang's GRDP will record an increase of 6-7% compared to 2021. Added value in service industry will climb by 5-6%, in industry-construction sector by 6-7%, in agricultural sector by 2-3%, and commodity export turnover by 9-10%.

Meanwhile, the city’s total State budget collections will exceed 3-5% of those in 2021, total development investment capital will increase by 6-7%, and job creation rate will be up by 4%.

The percentage of trained workforce (with degrees and certificates) will reach 50.6%, whilst the rate of poor households at the city’s poverty threshold by the end of the year will decrease to 3%.
