Outgoing Lao diplomat pays farewell visits to Da Nang leaders

Laotian Consul General in Da Nang Viengxay Phommachanh and his wife on Thursday paid visits to some of Da Nang leaders to bid farewell at the end of his 4-year tenure in Viet Nam.

During his reception for the Laotian diplomat, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang congratulated him on well fulfilling his assigned tasks over the past 4 years.

Secretary Quang highly praised the Laotian diplomat for his efforts in fostering traditional friendship between between Da Nang and south-central localities of Laos, and Viet Nam and Laos as a whole.

He expressed his desire to meet Mr. Viengxay Phommachanh again during his upcoming working trip to Laos.

When meeting with Consul General Viengxay Phommachanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee cum Chairman of the city branch of the Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association Ho Ky Minh acknowledged Mr. Viengxay Phommachanh's efforts in flexibly organising diplomatic activities in online format in light of the complicated developments of COVID-19.

According to Standing Vice Chairman Minh, almost of goals set in the cooperative agreements between Da Nang and some south-central localities of Laos during the 2018-2022 period have been basically completed.

He revealed that, during the upcoming working trip made by city leaders to southern and central localities of Laos, the two sides will discuss and enter a memorandum of cooperation in various aspects over the 2023-2027 period.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People's Council Cao Thi Huyen Tran highly appreciated Mr. Viengxay Phommachanh and staff of the Consulate General of Laos in Da Nang for their enthusiasm and high sense of responsible in supporting the city to promote exchange and cooperation activities with southern and central localities of Laos in the fields of economy, politics, culture, society, and foreign affairs.

At a meeting on the same day with the Lao diplomat, Chairman of the Da Nang Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Ngo Xuan Thang highly praised Mr. Viengxay Phommachanh for his active involvement in preserving and promoting the good traditional relationship and solidarity, faithfulness and transparency between the Party, Government and people of the two countries.

Chairman Thang hoped that, at the end of his term of office in the country, the guest would continue to support Da Nang to maintain good relations with Lao localities.

In reply, Lao Consul General Viengxay Phommachanh thanked Da Nang’s leaders for their enthusiastic and thoughtful support for him during his tenure in the city.

Mr. Viengxay Phommachanh highly appreciated the city leaders for their great support for Laotian localities over recent years, especially facilitating Lao people and students who are living and studying in Da Nang to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Laotian guest said that 2022 marked the 60th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962 - 2022) and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Viet Nam - Laos Amity and Cooperation Treaty (July 18, 1977 - 2022).

He expressed his belief that the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Da Nang and Laotian localities will be lifted to new heights in the future.
