PM urges Da Nang to innovate growth model based on innovation, advanced science and technology

“The Da Nang Party Committee needs to continue to promote the spirit of solidarity and creativity, combine the strengths of people, businesses with the help of international community and other localities nationwide to make more development strides. At the same time, great importance should be attached to Party building work, building a strong political system, improving the Party organisation's combat capacity”.

The above-mentioned request was made by Vietnamese Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting on Sunday with the Da Nang key leaders, with a focus on identifying tasks for the coming time.

PM Chinh highly appreciated outstanding achievements recorded by Da Nang over the past years, making an important contribution to the whole country’s progress. Emphasising tasks set for the coming time,

PM Chinh suggested that Da Nang promote the spirit of self-reliance and overcome difficulties to promote internal resources, attract external forces for socio-economic development.

In detail, Da Nang must continue to effectively implement COVID-19 prevention and control skills, with a heed to further promoting safe, scientific and effective vaccination, planning cultural development on a par with politics, economy - society associated with tourism growth, speed up the disbursement of public investment capital, especially for key projects.

It is necessary to focus on promoting site clearance for key projects, emphasised PM Chinh. The city is highly advised to boldly increase investment in the form of public - private partnership (PPP), with a focus on building mechanisms and policies, promote innovation in growth model based on innovation, productivity, advanced science and technology, especially in aspects with great potential such as logistics, marine economy, financial services, and hi-tech industry, tourism, health care, education and IT.

Another task is to develop substantive and effective regional linkages, high-quality human resources, especially in the field of services and tourism.

As reported by Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, Da Nang’s GRDP growth in the second quarter reach 12.37% and the average growth in the first half of the year was 7.23%, ranking second in terms of scale and growth rate of GRDP of provinces and cities in the central key economic region.

Also, in the first half of this year, the State budget revenue reached about VND13,356 billion, reaching nearly 70% of the year’s estimate and climbing by 18% over the same period.

The city’s import and export turnover increased by more than 20%.

Also, domestic investment attraction, the number of new enterprises increased significantly over the same period.

Currently, many big investors are actively promoting business scales in the city such as Adani Group (India) and Sumitomo Group (Japan).

Secretary Quang urged the national government to create more favourable conditions for Da Nang so that it can complete mechanisms and policies for long-term development motivation such as building mechanisms and policies to form a regional financial centre, a non-tariff zone and the innovation centre of the Central Viet Nam- Central Highlands regions.

In addition, the city is in need of more specific opinions and instructions from the national government to complete its major development orientations for the 2021 - 2030  period, with a vision towards 2050, and then submit it to the Prime Minister for approval.
