Raise spirit of patriotism
Quang Nam Province and Da Nang are now home to many places and relic sites that are considered as ‘red addresses’ associated with the historical events and revolutionary struggle of locals under the leadership of the Party.
Visiting the ‘red addresses’ shows gratitude to the previous generations, as well as educates revolutionary traditions and arouse the patriotic spirit of the young generations.
Most recently, officials and members of the Youth Union organization and the War Veterans’ chapter of the Da Nang Government Department and Agency Block have visited two ‘red addresses’: the Bo Bo Victory Monument in Dien Tien Commune, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province, and the Huynh Thuc Khang Memorial House in Tien Phuoc District, Quang Nam Province.
According to narrator Tran Van Chuan, Head of the Education - Communications Department of Da Nang Museum, the area of the Bo Bo Victory Monument was former military base of the French colonialists to defend from afar to protect the bases in Da Nang. On July 19, 1954, Quang Nam's soldiers fought bravely and smashed the Bo Bo base. The victory importantly contributed together with the whole country to end the resistance war against the French colonialists, forcing France to sign the Geneva Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina on July 20, 1954.
Meanwhile, the Huynh Thuc Khang Memorial House currently keeps many objects used during his lifetime. Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang was a patriotic scholar, exemplary leader, and a close associate of late President Ho Chi Minh. His life is a shining example of patriotism, always putting the interests of the nation first.
By visiting such venues, Mr. Phung Nhat Tuyen, a member of the Da Nang Youth Union's branch office was touched when he heard historical stories about his father's arduous struggle and sacrifice.
“At the red addresses, we can listen to meaningful stories to understand more about the arduous fighting process and sacrifice of heroes and martyrs. In the current period, we will inherit and promote the great achievements left behind by the previous generation, determined to dedicate ourselves to building a prosperous and beautiful homeland" said Nhat Tuyen.
Secretary of the Youth Union organization of the Da Nang Government Department and Agency Block Bui Thien Vy said that fostering revolutionary ideals and educating patriotic traditions for cadres, young people and members is an important task set by the Youth Union organization and the War Veterans’ chapter of the Da Nang Government Department and Agency Block. The focus has been on visiting and learning about revolutionary historical sites, offering incense and flowers at the martyrs' cemeteries, and taking care of and giving gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers.
These activities express gratitude of the young generation for heroes, martyrs and people with meritorious services, thereby arousing the national pride, sense of responsibility, and the spirit of volunteerism of the youth.
Revolutionary traditional education for students
In order to raise awareness and educate the revolutionary traditions of their homeland, in addition to classroom lessons, students need practical lessons through tours and history studies at red addresses.
Recently, 39 outstanding students who have achieved "Students of 3 Goods" and "Students of 3 Practices" have visited the Dien Hai Citadel and the Museum of Cham Sculpture.
During their visit to the venues, students have listened to explanations about images, artifacts and meaningful stories about the arduous battle and sacrifice of their fathers. These are considered useful and easy-to-remember lessons, helping them gain more understanding of local history.
Phan Vu Ngoc Quyen, a 12th grader of the Nguyen Thuong Hien Senior High School based in Lien Chieu District, said that despite being born and raised in Da Nang, this was his first time to visit the Dien Hai Citadel and the Museum of Cham Sculpture.
Through meaningful historical stories of heroes and martyrs during the years of fighting against foreign invaders, he and his friends realized that they need to study and practice more to preserve their country’s precious and proud historical traditions.
