A delegation of Da Nang, led by Chairman of the municipal Labour Confederation Nguyen Duy Minh recently visited and presented gifts to families of some martyrs who laid down their lives in the Gac Ma Island battle against the Chinese in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago on 14 March 1988.

These were families of martyrs Pham Cong Loi, Le Van Xanh and Nguyen Huu Loc. The Da Nang delegation gave each family a gift worth VND5 million.

During his visits to the families, Chairman Nguyen Duy Minh expressed his deepest gratitude to the martyrs for their great contributions and sacrifices in the struggle for national independence and freedom. He also took the opportunity to encourage their relatives to continue promoting the revolutionary tradition, and contributing to building Da Nang into a prosperous, beautiful and civilised city.

It is known that among the 64 fallen soldiers in the Gac Ma battle, nine were from Da Nang and one from neighbouring Quang Nam Province.
