17th Da Nang Trade Union Congress opens
The 17th Congress of the Da Nang Confederation of Labour for the 2023 - 2028 tenure opened in the city on Monday with the participation of 345 delegates representing over 130,000 members of all-level trade union organisations citywide.

This is a major political event, a big festival of the working class and trade union organisations of the city which determines important issues related to employees and trade union activities in the next five years.
In the next five years, the Congress sets a goal of adding new 53,000 trade union members, bringing the total number to 180,000 by the end of the term. At least 90% of enterprises and units will have trade union organisations qualified to represent, negotiate and sign collective labour agreements according to regulations with contents more beneficial to employees, in which, at least 30% of collective labour agreements are grade A.
In addition, 100% cases of trade union members needing advice and litigation regarding legal and legitimate rights and interests will have trade union representatives or be supported by trade unions. 300 'Shelters of Trade Union' will be built or repaired for the needy.
In his remarks at the event, President of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Dinh Khang asked the city's Trade Union to continue innovating its organisational model and methods; developing new trade union members; implementing a pilot project to establish a trade union in the tourism and service industry; and setting up and effectively directing the operation of a center for legal consultation and support for workers.

He highlighted the necessity for the unit to boost the application of information technology as well as develop fundamental solutions to effectively implement a breakthrough in comprehensive digital transformation in trade union activities, thereby providing practical and timely services to trade union members and workers.
Municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang required grassroots trade unions to mobilise their members, workers, public employees, and employees to firmly grasp the Party's policies and guidelines, and the State's laws.
He also asked the municipal-level trade union to closely follow the political tasks of the city, locality, units and businesses to effectively organise emulation movements and campaigns with appropriate content and form.

Mr. Quang also took the opportunity to direct the city's Confederation of Labour to coordinate with relevant agencies to propose subjects, especially workers and laborers in difficult circumstances, to access loans of VND 50 billion in total, to overcome difficulties, and improve their livess.
