Da Nang General Hospital asks for more beds

DA NANG Today
Published: November 06, 2013

In recent years, the Da Nang General Hospital has been faced with patient overload, and a bed occupancy rate of 161%.

In addition, the hospital is also seeing an increasing number of patients with chronic diseases.  This is due to the hospital’s preferential policies on fee exemption or reduction for patients with certain chronic deseases, especially those with kidney diseases and receiving dialysis.  The hospital now receives an average of over 1,000 outpatients each day, 30% of whom are from localities outside Da Nang.

In the past 9 months, the number of patients receiving medical examinations and surgery, CT, X-ray, and MRI screening, and blood sample tests has already exceeded the year’s target.

In an attempt to deal with this patient overload, the hospital is asking for permission from the city’s authorities to increase the number of beds from 1,010 to 1,200 and to upgrade some of the existing facilities or building new ones.  The hospital now has 1,234 employees, 275 of whom are doctors.
