Published: November 04, 2013

According to the Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, tropical storm Krosa has weakened into a depression after changing direction from westerly to south-westerly.

At 4pm today, the depression’s position should be at latitude 16°7’N and longitude 109°9’E, about 180km northeast of the coastal areas from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai provinces.  It is predicted to carry wind speeds of 39 - 61kph near its centre.

Over the next 12 to 24 hours, the depression will continue to move in a westerly or south-westerly direction at a speed of about 30kph.  It is forecast to weaken into a low pressure area before making landfall in the central coastal provinces from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai.

By 4am tomorrow, 5 November, it should be positioned over the southern part of Laos at latitude 14°6’N and longitude 106°9’E.

Due to the effects of the low pressure area combining with cold air, from this evening, the Da Nang area and elsewhere along the central coast will see moderate to heavy showers, as will the northern highlands.

Meanwhile, another depression has formed in the southern part of the Philippines, and it is predicted to strengthen into a storm over the next few days.  It is moving in a westerly or north-westerly direction at a speed of about 25kph.

By 1pm tomorrow, the depression, which carries wind speeds of 62 - 88kph (level 10/11) near its centre, should be positioned over the Palawan Islands in the Philippines.

By 1pm on 6 November, its position should be in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, at latitude 11°N and longitude 113°E.

Whilst its predicted course could change, it is currently predicted to cross the Vietnamese coast near Vung Tau on Wednesday evening and  affect the southern provinces.
