On Wednesday, the Vice Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, and some leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism discussed the establishment of the Fine Arts Museum at 78 Le Duan Street.  The museum will result from an upgrade of the existing Centre of Cultural Heritage Management.

The department’s Deputy Director, Mr Tran Quang Thanh, said that traditional and modern art works from the city, the south central region and the highlands will be displayed at the new museum.  In addition, the museum will be home to some valuable works from the Sa Huynh and Champa cultures.

This year, the focus will be on making investment preparations and designs for the museum, and estimating the cost of the upgrading work.  The project is scheduled to be implemented in 2015, with its interior decorations completed in 2016.

The implementation of this project is needed to meet the requirements of aesthetic characteristics, and to ensure enough space for displaying fine art works.

To date, 148 sketch paintings and posters by the late painter Nguyen Duc Hanh, plus many other fine arts works by local and regional painters, have been donated to the city.  These will be displayed at the new museum when it opens its doors to the public.
