2 arrested accused of fraud
On Tuesday, police from Da Nang’s Thanh Khe District Criminal Investigation Unit prosecuted and imposed 3-month temporary custody orders on 30-year-old Ma Thi Huyen Trang from Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Son Commune and 20-year-old Nguyen Si Trung from the district’s Hoa Khuong Commune for ‘defrauding money and appropriating property’.
According to the initial police investigation, Trang doesn’t have a stable job and she often borrows money from people which she cannot then afford to repay. In June 2015, Trang saw on the internet Trung’s advertisement offering to lend money so she found Trung and asked to borrow some. Trung said that he hadn’t got any money, but he advised Trang to use her identity papers to purchase products from certain companies and pay for the items in instalments. Next, Trang used her identity card and household registration book to buy a cell phone and sign an instalment loan agreement with the HC Vietnam company.
In July 2015, Trang bought an air conditioner for around 10 million VND from the V Electronics supermarket and signed an agreement with the HDS Company. She then sold this item to Trung to pay off her debts and cover up her spending.
Between August and December 2015, Trang used fake identity papers to sign loan agreements with the city-based VNTV company a total of 9 times. All the items she bought, valued at over 84 million VND, were sold on to Trung.
