Opportunities and challenges brought by TPP
Last Friday, the Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), Mr Mai Duc Chinh, chaired an online meeting to publicise basic information about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Law on Occupational Safety and Hygiene to trade union organisations nationwide.
During the event, participants were introduced to the opportunities and challenges for Viet Nam once the TPP agreement comes into effect in 2018. Included were the legal rights of labourers, creating a fair competitive environment amongst domestic businesses, and the performance of trade union organisations and VGCL as a whole.
Some ideas for amending the rules of the Viet Nam trade union and labour laws and renewing the performance of trade union organisations were also presented.
In the evening of the same day, a spokesperson for the VGCL briefed some basic information about the Law on Occupational Safety and Hygiene, and the legal rights and responsibilities of trade union organisations in implementing this law.
