The Ministry of Education and Training organised a recent launch ceremony in Da Nang in response to the global initiative to end physical violence against children at home and at school.

According to a report of the Ministry of Public Security, Viet Nam records a total of 3,000-4,000 cases of violence against children each year, in which around 100 children are killed and 1,000 others are sexually assaulted.

Besides, a survey of the General Statistics Office shows that 74% of Vietnamese children aged 2-14 are punished by violence by their parents or other family members or baby-sisters, and 24% of married women who have children aged under 15 admit that their husbands once used violence against their children.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia said that the reason for the violence is that parents, child caregivers, teachers and children themselves lack basic knowledge on the enforcement of children’s rights, including the right to be protected and the right to be safe of children.

The event was in response to the 5-year global initiative on ending physical violence against children started by International World Vision.
