Currently, Mrs Lan is selling banana leaves for those who make ‘banh chung’ (square glutinous rice cake) and ‘banh tet’ (cylindrical glutinous rice cakes) in her village.

She is called a crazy woman by her villagers because she often does charity activities that nobody can do like her.

Late Phan Thi T. who lived in a very difficult circumstance received active assistance from Mrs Lan. The deceased woman suffered a stroke, so she lied motionless on bed, and ate instant noodles and instant soup day after day.

Her husband earned only a little money from chores, whilst their children couldnot afford to take care of their parents.

From 2016 to early 2018, in order to help the poor deceased woman, Mrs Lan were actively involved in preparing for meals for her twice a day regardless of whether it was raining or sunny.

Mrs Lan also assisted this poor woman with personal care, and gave her over 500,000 VND each month to buy medicine.

Mrs Lan and her husband Phan Van Anh together took care of the poor old woman until the day she passed away.

Also in the Phuoc Thuan Village, Mrs Lan and her husband have actively helped 43-year-old Huynh Tan Trung who has both of his hands amputated, and 92-year-old Tran Thi Thi whose son is lying motionless on bed due to a labour accident.

The kind-hearted woman often gives them a little money, milk bottles, cakes or portions of rice soup.

Apart from her village, Mrs Lan and some local Buddhist followers often do charity work in Northern Viet Nam and Cambodia.

They have helped disadvantaged children nationwide and joined forces with local pagodas to take care of them.

Thanks to her meaningful charity activities, Mrs Lan is one of the 72 people citywide to have been honoured for her active involvement in the city’s patriotic emulation movements. Also, she has been presented a Certificate of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee.
