Effective measures to be taken for road safety
According to the latest statistics released by the Da Nang Police Department, in the first half of this year, a total of 42 traffic accidents occurred across the city, claiming 29 lives, injuring 32, and causing tens of million VND in property damage to the victims.
In comparison with the same period last year, the city saw a decrease of 9 in the number of road traffic accidents, and up 1 and down 3 in the volume of deaths and injuries, respectively.
The incidents were mainly attributed to violations by careless road users, included exceeding the speed limit, travelling in the wrong lanes and directions, and diversion of attention from road users.
During the 6-month period, administrative fines of over 4.6 billion VND were imposed on a total of 5,997 traffic regulation violations detected on the spot.
Also, 75 cars and 466 motorbikes were temporarily seized, whilst 942 offenders had their driving licences temporarily revoked.
In particular, about 1,153 out of the total violations were caught on surveillance cameras installed along local streets.
With regard to effective measures to reduce the number of road traffic collisions, in the coming time, importance will be attached to raising public awareness of traffic safety, and implementing the landmark ongoing ‘The City of 4 Safe Programmes’ and ‘Traffic Safety for Children’ campaigns.
Special attention will also paid to encouraging the public to use public transport services rather than their personal vehicles with the aim of easing traffic congestion, and dealing with the operation of dumper trucks carrying soil and stone which might adversely affect the environmental sanitation and cause possible tragic traffic accidents.
Effective measures will be taken to ensure that no waterway traffic accidents will happen in this city, especially during the upcoming rainy and stormy season.
