The Da Nang People's Committee has issued a plan to sort waste at source in the city by 2025 in order to implement the national strategy on solid waste management by 2025, with a vision towards to 2050. In addition, the criteria for the reusing and recycling of domestic solid waste stipulated in the project for building Da Nang into an environmentally friendly city have been developed.

In details, the city has set a target of collecting 95% of solid waste for treatment over the 2019 – 2025 period, with at least 12% and 15% to be recycled and reused in 2020 and 2025 respectively.

There are main types of solid waste, mainly domestic solid waste for recycle and reuse, including paper, plastic and metal items; hazardous waste with toxic components including batteries, electric bulbs, and broken circuitsp; large, bulky domestic solid waste, and discarded construction materials; and food waste like vegetable and meat, leftover food and eggshells.

During this year, focus will be on raising awareness of sorting waste at source amongst local citizens and waste source owners, developing district-level waste classification plans, and procuring equipment, along with developing technical infrastructure for sorting garbage.

In particular, the waste classification will start in the downtown district of Hai Chau in July, and will then expand into the remaining districts throughout the city in September.
