Everyone has the power to help in some ways during the Covid-19 outbreak, and science and technology companies across Da Nang are doing just that to help the city fight the virus.

Chau Da Company located in Hoa Cam Industrial Park in Cam Le District is one of the first recognised science and technology companies in Da Nang.

Mr To Tan Dung, Director of Chau Da company said that soaring demand for face masks has drawn his company looking to supply the market. It took the company’s engineers 15 days to create its own surgical face mask making machine with its production capacity of 100pcs/min.

Director Dung remarked that his company will put its own machine into operation to mass-produce surgical face masks in order to secure enough this facial protection item for residents in Da Nang, and then supply to neighbouring localities.

Mr Dung also said that his company is willing to transfer designs for its own surgical face mask making machine to any other manufactures in demand for such machine in a bid to supply face masks to residents in their localities. He hopes that the locally-made machine will help ease shortages of face masks for residents in Da Nang, and those in Viet Nam at large, in order to protect them against coronavirus.

Besides, local firm QCM Technologies located in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward, an embedded software system developer, has also built its own non-invasive ventilator to be used in Da Nang hospitals during the current outbreak.

Mr Nguyen Thanh Chuong, Director of the company, said it took QCM’s engineers a nearly week to build its own non-invasive prototype ventilator.

“We could manufacture 20 non-invasive ventilators a day. We use up to 60 % domestic materials to build our own machine for a competitive price of VND25 million (US$1,000) each," Mr Chuong added.

Director Chuong said the prototype ventilator is produced using recommendations from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the US Food and Drug Administration.

The company plans to produce its ventilators for export opportunities in the future, Mr Chuong noted.

QCM, which was granted an investment licence in 2017, has been a unique provider of technology solutions – including shrimp size and weight grading machines – for domestic use and export.

Mr Tran Van Hoang, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology applauded local companies for manufacturing medical devices to combat Covid-19 although they are facing challenges and financial hardship in the wake of the escalating coronavirus crisis. They are joining the city’s fight against Covid-19 and supporting their efforts to contain the spread of the virus, Mr Hoang added.
