Four fishermen rescued from sinking boat
Four fishermen have been rescued by crew members of another fishing boat after their boat started sinking off the coast of Da Nang.
The crew on the fishing boat DNa 90657 TS from Xuan Ha Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang, issued a distress signal at 7.00pm last Saturday stating that their boat was rapidly taking on water. At that time, they were fishing in the Hoang Sa (Paracels) waters.
Soon after, fishing boat DN 90718 TS, captained by Mr Nguyen Van Dam from Thanh Khe District's Thanh Khe Dong Ward, operating nearby came to save the distressed fishermen after being alerted by a distress signal from them. Currently, the DN 90718 TS is on an offshore fishing trip, so it is expected to return to the mainland next week.
The about 1,000 CV fishing boat DN 90657 TS is 22m in lenght, 6.2m in width and 3.5m in height.
This boat, owned by the family of Mrs Huynh Thi Nhu Hoa, was launched in January 2015. The launching of the boat is to replace the family's previous fishing boat DNa 90152 TS which was rammed and sank by Chinese boats in Vietnamese waters off the Hoang Sa Archipelago on 26 May 2014, during China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.
