This is the first time in Viet Nam a pregnant woman with Covid-19 has sucessfully delivered a healthy baby.

The baby girl, weighing three kilograms is currently incubated.  Positively, the mother with Covid-19 and her newborn baby are now safe.

The woman tested positive for the virus on 1 August, when she was 35 weeks pregnant.

She was in normal health conditions during pregnancy, and could give birth the traditional way. However, the doctors carried out the operation in a bid to ensure safety for both the Covid-19 positive mother and her baby.

The woman was one of Viet Nam's two pregnant women who are infected with deadly virus.

Test for infections that can be passed from the mother with Covid-19 to her newborn baby will be carried out. However, there is no evidence to suggest the coronavirus could pass from mother to baby, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health previously had asked the Da Nang Health Department to create a plan for keeping safe for pregnant women with Covid-19 and their babies.

Included are preparations for both hospital traditional and cesarean delivery options for pregnant women with Covid-19, care for their newborns in a bid to ensure the safety for them.
