One road traffic accident recorded in Da Nang over New Year breaks
According to the latest statistics released by the Traffic Police Division of the Da Nang Police Department, only one road traffic accident was reported in Da Nang during the 3-day New Year holiday break from 1 - 3 January.
As a result, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision between a 7-seater car and a motorcycle on 3 January afternoon on Dien Bien Phu Street in Thanh Khe District.
During New Year breaks, 67 road traffic accidents happened across Viet Nam, killing 40 people and injuring 37 others. The figures showed a decrease of 9 in the number of accidents, deaths by 16, and injuries by 6, compared with the same period last year.
This year’s positive result has been attributed to effective measures taken by the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security to ensure traffic safety over New Year breaks.
The focus was on increasing patrols and checks at the places where cultural and sporting events were taking place. Importance was also attached to detecting, preventing and dealing with any extremist youngsters who might have been involved in disturbing public order or illegal motorbike racing.
During New Year breaks, administrative fines totalling over 28 billion VND were imposed on 27,294 traffic violations across Viet Nam. Strict penalties were imposed on drink-drivers, and those who run through red lights, weave between moving vehicles or zigzag through traffic, and exceed the speed limit.
