Emergency responses to large-scale flood risks in Da Nang
The Da Nang Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and Search and Rescue at the midday on Sunday, October 17, warned that slopes of a mountainside, areas along rivers and streams are at high risks of landslides and flash floods. In addition, flood warnings have been issued for riverside and low-lying areas.
Da Nang is experiencing widespread heavy rainfall while discharges from three reservoirs into downstream of the Vu Gia River reach more than 5,000 m3/s, posing large-scale flood risks in Da Nang.

Authorities at local level are asked to develop active planning for response to flash floods and landslides in their local areas, and prepare an effective evacuation plan for people living in low-lying areas, along rivers and streams and areas that are at high risk of flash floods and landslides in order to move them to safe places with proper precautions against COVID-19 in place. The special attention must be paid to preparing emergency evacuation for people living along Yen, Tuy Loan, and Cu De rivers in Hoa Tien, Hoa Khuong, Hoa Bac, Hoa Lien, Hoa Phu, Hoa Phong, Hoa Son communes, mountainous areas in Hoa Vang Rural District, the Son Tra Peninsula, the south of Hai Van Pass which have high risk of flash floods and landslides.
The Department of Construction is tasked to work with relevant agencies to prepare plans for response to flooding in urban areas, especially in residential areas.
The Da Nang Border Guard Command will work with local police to help tourist boats docking at the Han River move into the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and the Man Thai Bay to shelter from severe weather conditions.
Authorities at local level must assist their residents to prepare for severe weather in an attempt to keep them safe.
The Da Nang Electricity Company must take effective measures to promptly cut off power in heavily flooded areas, and ensure continuity of power supply for flood water pumping stations, as well as repair damage and restore power to businesses and homes after disruptions due to flooding.
