Floodwaters slowly recede, many homes and low-lying roads in Da Nang rural areas left under water

At 1:45 am today, October 18, the part of An Trach Dam on the Cu De River peaked at 6.06 m and floodwaters are receding very slowly. The water level at this part reduced to 5.9 m at 7:45 am today due to discharges from reservoirs into downstream of Vu Gia river at about 900 m3/s.

The Da Nang Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and Search and Rescued on Monday morning, October 18 said that floodwaters on the Yen River are receding slowly, and 122 houses and many low-lying inter-village roads in Hoa Tien, Hoa Khuong and Hoa Phong communes in Hoa Vang District are being submerged in water.

On Sunday, October 17, the authorities in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune moved 6 families with 19 members in total living in the villages of Nam Yen, Nam My and Pho Nam to their neighbouring houses to shelter due to flooding.

Strong winds wreaked havoc across Da Nang, ripping off the roofs of 3 classrooms at Hoa Bac Semi-Boarding Primary School in Pho Nam Village, Hoa Bac Commune, as well as toppling some trees in urban areas.

Heavy rainfall caused rivers to burst their banks, leaving some areas in Nam Yen and Loc My villages, both in Hoa Bac Commune, Truong Dinh Village in Hoa Lien Commune, Thach Nham Tay Village in Hoa Nhon Commune, Trung Son Village and 10 homes in Quan Nam village 1 in Hoa Lien commune and Tuy Loan Tay Village in Hoa Phong Commune underwater on Sunday, October 17. However, floodwaters have receded in these areas.

Heavy rains lashed Da Nang on Sunday, causing flooding and travel disruption in residential areas in An Thuan and An Vinh, and An Hai Tay wards in Son Tra District, leaving 30 homes in Hoa Minh Ward in and some areas in Hoa Khanh Nam, Hoa Khanh Bac, Hoa Hiep Nam wards in Lien Chieu district under water, turning some roads in these areas into ponds, and putting the alley No. 266 on Truong Chinh Street in Hoa An Ward, Cam Le district underwater.

Flood pumping station at the end of Ong Ich Khiem Street operated at full capacity to drain floodwater from such major downtown streets as Nguyen Van Linh, Ham Nghi, and Le Duan.

The water level on the Yen River has risen and is receding slowly, causing flooding in Nam Son, Le Son Nam, Le Son Bac, An Trach, Le Son 2, La Bong villages in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, in which, 122 houses are being submerged in floodwater.

Some concrete roads in low-lying areas in La Chau Village in Hoa Khuong Commune, Cam Toai Dong and Cam Toai Trung villages in Hoa Phong commune are flooded.

Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and flooding alerts are in place in low-lying areas, riverside areas and urban areas as flood waters are slowly receding on Vu Gia River .
