Waiver of social housing rent for people in hardship
In addition to timely support policies for people affected by COVID-19, Da Nang government has recently passed a policy to waive the rent for social housing apartments, terraced houses and student halls of residence in a bid to help tenants get through the tough time triggered by the pandemic. Most of tenants cannot hide their joy and excitement before the city's humanitarian decision.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident of apartment B1 of E2 social housing building for low-income earners in Cam Le District’s Hoa Xuan Ward, said in tears that she lost her job as an on-demand restaurant worker because of the coronavirus crisis. Therefore, she has faced substantial rent burdens. Her family and other poor workers in the building were very happy at the city’s new waiver policy in July, August and September. She thanked the city leader for their great care and timely support for people affected by COVID-19, especially in this difficult time.
Hundreds of university and junior college students who are living in a student hall of residence on the eastern side of the city in Ngu Hanh Son District showed their excitement after being informed about the city’s policy to waive room rent.
Phan Thi My Hanh, a student of the Da Nang University of Economics, was very happy at the city’s new policy, helping her family partly relieve her family's financial burden.
Mr. Phan Thanh Quy living in the Hoa Hiep affordable housing scheme in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, highlighted the city's timely and humanitarian policy for people in financial hardship.
The Da Nang Center for Housing Management and Exploitation under the municipal Department of Construction said that it is currently managing and signing lease contracts for about 9,028 State-owned social housing units and terraced houses. Most of the tenants are people facing housing difficult.
Meanwhile, 958 students are now living in student halls of residence in the east and west of the city which both provide accommodations for 4,190 students.
