When tourism activities in the city became active again, sanitation workers of the Son Tra Environmental Factory have increased their working hours in service of garbage collection and street cleanups. Also, they have been active in regularly encouraging local people to dump garbage at the prescribed time and in the right places to make it convenient for them to collect garbage.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Nhien, Director of the Son Tra Environmental Factory, said that, in the previous months, the factory collected about 150 tons per day. However, since the start of April, the amount of garbage collected in the district has increased to 175 tons per day, and especially to 200 tons per day on the April 30 and May 1 holiday.
Therefore, the garbage collection trucks have to start working from 5:00am instead of 6:00 as previously.
Besides, 7 garbage collection trucks have increased their capacity from 3 to 4 trips per day.
From March until now, a total of 65 new 240-liter and 660-liter trash cans have been installed in residential areas across the district in a bid to create a clean and beautiful landscape in the locality.
Also, the factory also collects people's bulky waste periodically on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
To ensure green - clean - beautiful roads on the occasion of festivals in the district, the factory will assign its sanitation workers to be on duty on local streets around the clock.
Meanwhile, the Son Tra District authorities have been focusing on raising awareness of compliance with regulations on environmental sanitation among businesses and people since early March.
Heed has been paid to mobilising locals to clean up places in front of and around their house, dumping trash in the right places and at the prescribed time, and placing trash cans tidily.
The district has cooperated with the Son Tra Environmental Factory to keep green - clean – beautiful streets, and clean up garbage in vacant land lots in Tho Quang, Man Thai and Phuoc My wards.
Mr. Doan Van Duc, Head of the district’s Natural Resources and Environment Office, said that clean and beautiful streets are an important factor to make a good impression on tourists.
Therefore, the district authorities have directed the ward-level authorities to regularly organise general cleanups of sidewalks and vacant land lots along such main tourist routes as Ho Nghinh, Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, Tran Hung Dao , Pham Van Dong, Vo Van Kiet, and Ngo Quyen.
