Controlling occupational accidents and protecting workers' health are top priorities given by sectors and units at all levels, along with enterprises, with the aim to create a safe and quality working environment for employees.

Most recently, the Government has chosen May as the Action Month for Labour Safety and Hygiene. The purpose is to raise awareness of employers and workers in the observation of labour safety and hygiene regulations and to reduce the number of labour-related accidents and occupational diseases.

Building labour safety habits in workplace

Undertaking the function of operating the power grid to ensure a safe and continuous power supply for the city’s socio-economic development and people's life, the Da Nang Power One - Member Limited Liability Company, headquartered in Hai Chau 1 Ward, Hai Chau District, has constantly been making efforts to prevent occupational accidents.

Over the past years, the company’s technical, management and operation indicators have met well. Specially, the number of medium voltage power line accidents has been dropped significantly, whilst no the 110kV power grid-related problems have been recorded in the city.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Hung, Head of the company’s Safety Office, said that the above results were mainly attributed to the company's efforts in synchronously implementing safety solutions and raising awareness of labour safety and hygiene among its employees.

According to Mr. Hung, the company requires relevant units to promptly analyze the causes of occupational accidents, thereby drawing lessons from experience in minimise occupational accidents.

“Banners featuring the written words ‘Go home safely’ are hung at the office, aimed to raise vigilance against occupational accidents amongst the company’s employees” added Mr. Hung.

With the criterion of safety first, for many years, the Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company located in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, has ensured that no fatal occupational accidents or serious fire and explosion incidents have been reported in the company.

The positive result has been mainly attributed to the unit's efforts in well implementing policies and regimes for employees on labour safety and hygiene, and labour protection regulations, as well as raising the responsibility of officials and employees about labour safety and hygiene.

Efforts to limit occupational accidents

Statistics released by the Da Nang Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs show that, since the beginning of the year, a total of five occupational accidents have been recorded in the city, killing 5 people working in the fields of construction, and stone mining and processing.

In order to minimise occupational accidents, the Department has always actively involved in guiding units and enterprises to self-inspect and self-control dangerous and harmful factors, evaluate their labour safety and hygiene systems.

Importance has been attached to instructing units, enterprises and construction contractors to inspect machinery and equipment with strict requirements on labour safety in accordance with regulations.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, the Department’s Deputy Director, emphasised that, in recent years, thanks to the strict implementation of labour safety and hygiene measures, the number of labour accidents has decreased significantly, and the working conditions of workers have been gradually improved.

In response to the Action Month for Labour Safety and Hygiene, in May, State departments and agencies, along with businesses, in the city plan to simultaneously deploy a series of activities to reduce labour safety and hygiene risks, and improve working conditions, hereby contributing to caring for workers' lives and health.
