Fire and explosion prevention and control at accommodation establishments in Da Nang
During the peak tourism season and hot weather, the operational capacity of accommodation establishments in Da Nang significantly increases, posing an increased fire or explosion risk. More than ever, fire prevention and fighting work is being deployed by accommodation establishments as well as related units in a bid to ensure the safety of tourists and residents.
In fact, most hotels today are designed as tube houses and high-rise buildings, so when there is a fire, the emergency escape and fire fighting operation will face many difficulties.
In previous summers, many fires were reported at some accommodation establishments in the city. Although there was no loss of life, the great loss of property is a lesson for accommodation establishments to strengthen fire prevention and fighting work, especially in summer season.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi My Trinh, CEO of the Bien Vang (Golden Sea) Hotel located in An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District, said that more than 60 rooms of the hotel will operate at full capacity this summer, thus her hotel put priority to ensuring security and order, including fire prevention and fighting.
She added the hotel has bought modern tools and equipment for fire alarm and fighting as well as complied with the design and construction regulations for accommodation establishment.
Similarly, Mrs. Dang Bich Thuy, CEO of the Minh Toan Athena Hotel in Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, Hai Chau District said that her hotel provided its staff with training courses on basic fire safety skills, as well as purchased more fire prevention and fighting equipment to prevent fire and explosion risks.
As a key tourist area with many accommodation establishments, Son Tra District has prioritised carrying out the fire prevention and fighting work in many forms.
Major Le Van Vinh, Head of the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Team under the Son Tra District Police Division, shared that his unit has organised many professional training courses with a focus on guiding accommodation establishments to reinforce on-site fire prevention and fighting teams in accordance with the city’s regulations.
Most accommodation facilities have handled old fire fighting equipment and have upgraded electrical equipment that is prone to fire and explosion.
According to data released by the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Division under the municipal Department of Public Security, from mid-February to mid-May, the division, together with district-level police, held fire-fighting for more than 50 accommodation establishments, and rescue practices at more than 90 facilities, including accommodation establishments.
According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Nam, Head of the Police Division of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Information Rescue, currently, the fire prevention and fighting work mainly relies on the ‘Four-on-the-spot’ motto: on-site forces, on-site vehicles, on-site logistics work, and on-site command.
"However, if there is an unfortunate fire at accommodation establishments, not everyone has the skills to handle it, so it is very important to train locals about basic knowledge and skills on fire prevention and fighting" emphasised he.
