One day in mid-February 2022, the yard at Hope Village, Thanh Khe District, turned busier when having the presence of special "barbers" in green uniforms. Those are the officers and soldiers of the Barber Team under the municipal Border Guard.
According to Mr Phan Thanh Vinh, Director of Hope Village, this activity of Border Guard soldiers has had many practical meanings as the children feel overjoyed when having free-of charge haircuts.
Moreover, stories of study, daily eating, accommodation of children and ways of preventing, fighting diseases and maintaining environmental hygiene have been also shared during the haircutting process.
Currently, the Village of Hope has housed 118 orphans, families with difficult circumstances, and deaf children in Quang Nam Province and Da Nang. In addition to the support of the Da Nang Association for Poor Women and Children Protection, the Village has to call and mobilize more benefactors to raise funds for the children.
As shared by Lieutenant Lo Van Dinh, working for Non Nuoc Border Guard Station, even though they cut their hair for free, they always learn to improve their skills, and at the same time, follow the wishes of their "customers" so that they can have suitable haircuts.
Previously, officers and soldiers in the Barber Team under the municipal Border Guard gave free haircuts to dozens of elderly men and women at the Da Nang Center for the Supporting of the Revolutionary People, My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District.
Senior Lieutenant Mai Thanh Tai, Public Affairs Assistant of the Municipal Border Guard said that, previously, due to the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, all barbershops had to close for the pandemic prevention and control.
Therefore, officers and soldiers of the unit advised the unit commander to establish a 5-member Barber Team to contribute to ensuring the military appearance and actual requirements of the unit.
Currently, the Team has been operating for more than 2 years and has provided hundreds of free haircuts for officers and soldiers in the unit.
On top of that, the Barber Team of the Municipal Border Guard has continued to carry out activities for the community life such as giving free haircuts to people in Pho Nam Village, Hoa Bac Commune; Kim Lien beach cultural residential area; Xuan Ha Ward. The team has also coordinated with the Veterans Association of Thanh Binh Ward, Hai Chau District to cut hair for the elderly.
Senior Lieutenant Mai Thanh Tai said that this activity will continue to be maintained and can be expanded to contribute to the solidarity of the army and people, bringing many humanistic meanings to our daily life.
