Candle lighting ceremony held in Da Nang in commemoration of martyrs

The Da Nang Youth Union, the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the local War Veterans' Association held a candle lighting ceremony at the city’s Martyrs Cemetery in Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, on Sunday evening, in order to pay tribute to heroic martyrs on the 75th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27).

Youth Union officials and members, and young people, in the city offered incense, laid wreaths and lit up candles at the memorial monument and martyrs' graves.

Besides, talks were held during the programme to educate patriotism, revolutionary ideals and national pride for local young people.

Also at the programme, the organisers reviewed their performances in taking care of the martyrs' cemeteries, organising candle lighting ceremonies, offering incense at martyrs' graves and educating the young generation about revolutionary traditions at the martyrs' cemeteries in the city during the 2011-2022 period.

Specifically, since 2011, the three units have worked together to organise more than 1,100 environmental cleanups, take care of the martyrs’ cemeteries with the participation of nearly 42,000 turns of war veterans and Youth Union members, and plant more than 1,600 new trees and flowers in the campuses of martyrs’ cemeteries and memorial monuments citywide.

On the occasion, 15 collectives and 6 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of their active involvement in caring for the martyrs' cemeteries, lighting gratitude candles, offering incense at graves and organising educational activities about revolutionary traditions at the martyrs’ cemeteries.
