During the summer months, 20 young people who are students from the University of Architecture and members from the Youth Union Organisation of Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Khanh Bac Ward are working diligently to create street murals within their local area under hot weather conditions. They have transformed dusty walls on Lac Long Quan Street into beautiful sites with murals. Their art works also created a sense of responsibility for city folks to maintain the cleanliness of these places. Their paintings aims to spread meaningful message among local residents. Including are reminding them to put their waste in the right place, as well as encourage their active involment in environmental protection and increasing the green cover.

Da Nang architecture students have joined forces with local youth union to transform moss-covered walls of houses and buildings into clean, beautiful, safe and attractive sites.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thang, the Secretary of the Hoa Khanh Bac Ward Youth Union Organisation said that there are some street vendors on Lac Long Quan Street and some families used to place their garbage bags along walls of houses, and buildings, which have adversely affected the aesthetics of the local urban landscape, causing unsightly marks on this street.

However, murals give Lac Long Quan Street new face, make it more beautiful, and create a new inviting venue for locals and visitors to take selfies, Mr Thang remarked.

“Hopefully, the new face of this street will encourage local residents to join hands with local authorties to maintain the cleanliness of these places and stop indiscriminate dumping”, added Thang.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Binh, the Secretary of Lien Chieu District’s Youth Union Organisation highlighted the importance of street mural paintings to the beautification of the city. The meaningful work by Da Nang youth union members has demonstrated the effectiveness of murals in preserving and protecting urban landscape, as well as increasing urban green spaces. The involvement of local youth union members in beautifying their city with murals helps foster their social skills and promote positive and moral lifestyle among them, as well as affirm their significant role in society, Mr. Binh noted.

According to Mr. Ngo Tuan Anh, the Secretary of the Youth Union Organisation of the Da Nang University of Architecture, the creation of street art murals with meaningful messages is part of this year's Summer Volunteer Campaign launched by the school.

“Da Nang architecture students have contributed to creating street mural paintings in not only in the city but also in its neighboring localities, helping to raise public awareness and increasing their involvement in protecting the enviroment in a bid to promote the beautiful image of their locales in eyes of tourists", Mr. Tuan Anh said.
