Starting Wednesday, August 17, a burst of sweltering-hot weather is expected to bake the parts from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, due to the combined effects of the southern edge of the low pressure trench and the southwest monsoon, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Temperatures as high as 34 to 36 degrees Celsius will blanket these areas and are forecast to stick around in the next 2-3 days, the Regional Weather Service has warned. Lowest humidity is likely to record at 50-60 per cent. The intensity of this heat wave in these areas will gradually wane in the next 4-5 days.

Severe weather warning has been also issued for the parts from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, during hot weather conditions. The places within the warning area, especially mountainous areas, are likely to see thunderstorms during noon and afternoon hours. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning area.

The combined effects of the fresh Low Pressure Area and the southwest monsoon will bring showers with thunderstorms over the East Sea (including the waters of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes), the offshore area stretching from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand on Wednesday and Thursday. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, and strong winds at levels 7 to 8 in the warning areas, meteorologists at the Regional Weather Service said.
