On Saturday, showers with thunderstorms at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places during late afternoon and night hours are also likely over the parts from Thua Thien Hue to Binh Thuan, including Da Nang, Central Highlands and the Southern region, according to Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF). Localized rainfall accumulations could reach 20mm to 40mm, and localized accumulations in excess of 70mm in a 24 hour period are possible today.

Thundery showers will stay in the forecast for these areas over next few days.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas. Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas in the affected parts, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas.

The Observatory will issue the Localised Heavy Rain Advisory, indicating the affected areas and the respective recorded or expected rainfall, to alert the public of potential flooding due to heavy rain in the warning areas, so as to take precautionary measures. The advisory also reminds affected areas to take appropriate responsive actions to alleviate the impact of flooding in concerned areas.

Today, the national weather service issued a warning for showers and thunderstorms for the middle and southern part of the East Sea (including the waters of the Truong Sa Islands), the offshore areas stretching from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, and strong winds at levels 7 to 8 in the warning areas, meteorologists at the National Weather Service said.

Warning for thunderstorms and high winds remains in place over the sea over the next several days.
