Traffic monitoring cameras need installing along Hai Van Pass paths
The situation of teenagers and young adults driving motorbikes wiggling with speed wobbles along zigzagging paths on the Hai Van Pass in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang poses a danger to pedestrians, a risk of traffic insecurity.

Strictly handle traffic violations
Over the past time, there has been a situation under which young people intentionally driving motorbikes on the Hai Van Pass have jostled and swerved causing traffic disorder and safety. Many young people like recording a clip of one-wheeling, which is basically riding a motorbike, using a single wheel, posing danger to the driver, in addition to running at high speed, and then posting it on social networks. Such an act has sparked anger and criticism made in the online community.
Through many posted clips, it is easy to see that many teenagers craving for thrilling experiences, after driving their motorbikes at a high speed, move into a perilous death-prone curve at the Km 905+300 section, causing an accident. How very dangerous the situation is!
Ms. Vo Thi Dung, a resident in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward said that, on weekends, some young people ride motorbikes along paths on the Hai Van Pass and often gather at the curve near the top of the pass.. “I have witnessed many young people driving motorbikes with one wheel causing an accident. This is an area where many large trucks often move back and forth. So, many people gather at this curve poses a risk of traffic safety. We hope the local authorities and the local traffic police force will strengthen patrols and handle violations on the Hai Van Pass route," said Ms. Dung.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Rang, the Head of Traffic Police Station at Hoa Hiep Gate, belonging to the Da Nang Police Department's Traffic Police Department, every Saturday and Sunday, traffic flows through the Hai Van Pass is very crowded. In particular, in recent times, there has been a situation under which young people, mostly foreigners, use motorbikes and large displacement motorcycles to weave in and out of the lanes, thus causing traffic disorder and safety.
Since the beginning of this year, the Hoa Hiep Gate Traffic Police Station has handled 255 cases of traffic violations., including using motorbikes without rearview mirror and helmets, exceeding passenger mummer limit , failing to comply with licence plate regulations, holding no driver's licence, and illegally stopping and parking vehicles.
“In view of the above-mentioned situation, the Commanding Board of Hoa Hiep Gate Traffic Police Station has assigned regular forces to intensify patrols and checks to timely detect and strictly handle violations. In particular, through reflections on social networks, we have assigned a working group to regularly verify and handle many traffic violations on the Hai Van Pass”, added Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Rang.
Proposal to install surveillance cameras on Hai Van Pass
Vice Chairman of Lien Chieu District People's Committee Le The Nhan said that, in order to restore urban order and traffic safety on the Hai Van Pass, the Lien Chieu People's Committee has asked the Hoa Hiep Gate Traffic Police Station and other competent units to strengthen handling of those who gather and cause traffic disorder and safety.
Also, special heed has been paid to ensuring the construction order and the trading situation at makeshift tents and shops along routes leading to the pass, strictly handle the problem of road users encroaching into the road safety corridor, causing traffic insecurity.
Colonel Tran Phong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Police Department, said that relevant agencies is making plans to survey and install surveillance cameras on routes on the Hai Van Pass, especially at Km 905+300, where the situations of gatherings, weaving in between traffic and driving in a zigzag fashion usually happen, thereby serving as a basis for handling violations.
