National weather service predicts cold wave for Eastern part of northern region, the chances of rain for central region
Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on Thursday predicts that widespread thundery showers are likely to lash over North Viet Nam while heavy rains are expected to continue over central region, Central Highlands and Southern region.
The national weather forecasters said that a cold front is ushering a cold airmass into the Northern region. The strong cold front will allow temperatures to drop significantly in the warning areas.
Cold temperatures are expected to strike the Eastern part of Northern region from Thursday, November 24 as temperatures are predicted to drop to 19 to 21 degrees Celsius in the Northern Middland and Delta, and even 16 to 19 degrees Celsius in its mountainous areas. The coolest temperatures are in the early morning and at night.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in northern region and North Central Coast on Thursday with the possibility of heavy rainfall at a few places. The total rainfall amount will be 15mm-30mm in common in these aeras while more than 60mm of rain could fall in some places.
There are also warnings of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, high winds, tornadoes and hail in these areas. Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas in the region, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas. The advisory urges residents to ‘be aware’ of inclement weather. Local residents are advised to get ready for such weather conditions in an attempt to reduce the risk of possible damages.
Today, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan with heavy rainfall likely in some places while widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in southern part of the region during night hours with the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at a few places. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 22 to 25 degrees Celsius and highs of 27 to 30 degrees Celsius.
The forecast has indicated the possibility of showers and thunderstorms over Central Highlands with a chance of heavy rains at isolated locations. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 25-28 degrees Celsius and 19-22 degrees Celsius.
