The Da Nang Department of Transport has given a nod for the Urban Management Office under the Son Tra District People's Committee to pilot the installation of QR readers under street name signs.

The QR readers will be installed on 109 street name posts on 25 routes across the district, namely Tran Quang Dieu, Nguyen Duy Hieu, Tran Duy Chien, Yet Kieu, Le Duc Tho, Phan Ba Phien, Morrison, Loseby, Chinh Huu, To Hien Thanh, Le Huu Trac, Le Tan Trung, Tran Dinh Dan, Nguyen The Loc, Nguyen Van Thoai, Huy Du, Dinh Thi Ho, Pham Thieu, Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc, Nguyen Huy Chuong, Nguyen Si Co, Ha Thi Than, Le Van Quy, Tran Quang Khai and Duong Tu Minh.

QR codes will be placed directly under each street sign. QR codes are two-dimensional barcodes that are made up of black-and-white squares which link to information such as images, videos, text, and web pages. The encoded information can be read using a smartphone.

The QR code display boards are made of galvanized steel with a blue reflective background with white letters in both Vietnamese and English.

With the installation of QR readers, people can use smartphones to scan the code. The information will be extracted into an image file showing the history, location, length, width, and a biography of the street’s namesake.

The pilot installation of QR codes in Son Tra District is expected to be completed by December 20, 2022.
