After one year of implementing the conclusion of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference, cultural work in Da Nang has received more and more support and achieved many positive results, contributing to improving the cultural and spiritual life of residents. This is a premise for the entire cultural sector to effectively implement new directives and projects of the city’s administration on cultural development, towards building a civilised, modern and rich urban area.

According to the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, in 2022, professional performing arts and mass art activities were maintained regularly, meeting the needs and tastes of the people.

Cultural activities and festivals on both sides of the Han River have left a unique cultural mark that attracted tourists when coming to Da Nang. In particular, it was necessary to mention the contribution of art units to improving the quality of cultural and art programmes.

In the past year, the Da Nang Centre for Culture - Cinema maintained and expanded its scale, establishing many cultural and art clubs attracting the participation of many people from all walks in life with different ages.

The Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong (Classic Drama) Theater actively delivered arts programmes at tourist attractions and residential areas with 70 performances attracting more than 23,000 viewers. Besides, the theater always focuseed on professional training for young actors and musicians and cooperated with Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation JSC to bring traditional art into the Da Nang International Airport to promote traditional cultural values typical of Vietnamese regions.

At the same time, heed was paid to actively contacting organisations and individuals inside and outside the city to contract for staging and performing high-quality art programmes for events and festivals.

As one of the key art units in the city, in 2022, the Trung Vuong Theater constantly innovated styles of performance to satisfy the audience’s taste, in tandem with boldly experimenting breakthrough performances in terms of ideas and forms to make the show richer and more diverse.

Director of Trung Vuong Theater Tran Van Hao said that, in 2022, its music and dance troupes held 59 performances attracting the audience of 57,000, built 6 new programmes and upgraded many programmes.

Especially, in December 2022, with great efforts from internal resources, the theater’s staff participated in the ASEAN Music Festival and achieved many proud achievements, namely Silver Medal for the art programme ‘The river is not cold’, in which one performance won the Gold Medal; 2 performances won Silver Medals and one guitarist was awarded the Best Performer.

Also last year, despite the implementation of the free entry regulation, the activities of museums made positive changes. In particular, the research, collection, calling for donation and restoration of documents and artifacts were focused much. Specifically, the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture welcomed 64,620 visitors, whilst Da Nang Museum with 63,567, the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts with more than 36,102.

For library work, in the past year, thanks to the efforts of relevant agencies and schools, the development of reading culture achieved many positive results. Activities focused on grassroots, gradually forming reading habits, widely developing reading culture in the community.

According to Director of the General Science Library Le Thi Bich Phuong, in 2022, the unit added 10,980 copies/1,864 book titles, serving nearly 1.3 million readers, an increase of 246% compared to 2021. In 2023, the library is setting a sight on promoting the service of mobile library vehicles, coordinate with agencies to organise the display and introduction of new books with appropriate themes on the occasion of major holidays and events.

At the same time, attention will be paid to enhancing digital transformation, build book introduction clips on social networking sites, supporting the building of data and operations for district-level and private libraries”, said Ms. Phuong.

According to Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports Pham Tan Xu, in 2023, the cultural sector will implement Directive No. 23-CT/TU dated December 27, 2022 adopted by the municipal Party Committee on strengthening the Party's leadership towards the Party construction and cultural development in the city.

In that spirit, the city will propose methods and solutions for cultural development in accordance with the guiding spirit of the national and municipal governments, with a focus on effectively implementing the project of organising special annual events and cultural festivals.

The city’s cultural industry will implement the project 'Socio-cultural development synchronised with economic development, focusing on building a civilized and friendly Da Nang people, serving as the foundation for building a peaceful, livable city, forming the own identity and values of Da Nang in line with the traditions, history and culture of Da Nang people in the 2022-2030 period'.

In addition, appeals will be made for private investment flows into cultural events of national and international statures, thereby, raising the level of cultural enjoyment of the people, turning Da Nang into a center of events and festivals of the country, the region and the world at large in the coming time.
