Rain in mid-central region expected to taper off by Monday afternoon

Rains in the parts from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, are expected to clear up by Monday afternoon, November 27, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

As per the regional weather service, Da Nang was lashed by heavy to very heavy rainfall from Saturday evening to Sunday morning, leading to waterlogging in some areas. The city was pounded by 70-100mm of rain in a span of merely 3 hours while some places recorded nearly 50mm in an hour. In detail, Hoa Quy recorded highest rainfall of 49.8mm, followed by 48.8mm at Hoa Phat, 47mm at Phan Lang canal, 45mm at Hoa Cuong Nam, and 42.6mm at Hoa Son.

The weather activity led to waterlogging on some low-lying areas, including alley 161 located on Me Suot Street, Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, an area along the Khe Can Sewer, Thanh Khe Tay Ward, and DH 2 Road located in Hoa Son Commune.

According to the weather warning issued by the regional weather service, from Sunday morning into Monday morning, November 27, the parts from Thua Thien- Hue to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, will continue to witness light to moderate rain with localized heavy to extremely heavy falls and thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 70mm to 150mm, and even over 200mm possible in some places.

During the forecast period, Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces are likely to continue to receive rainfall while moderate to heavy downpours are expected to fall at isolated locations. Total rainfall amount is forecast to reach 20mm to 70mm in common over these provinces, and even over 100mm possible at isolated places.

Wet conditions should be dry over the parts from from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, by Monday afternoon, November 27, according to regional forecasters.

Authorities at the affected areas must take proactive and necessary mitigation measures in response to heavy rain which could trigger flooding in urban areas, flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying and riverside areas.

Authorities at local level and relevant agencies in Da Nang should take necessary measures to cope with heavy and concentrated rainfall occurring in the city for very short period of time.
