In 2023, cultural, folk dance, and sports events for Da Nang’s women were brought to new level. A highlight of these events is the monthly 'Rendezvous' program taking place along a bank of the Han River. The success of this program encourages authorities at local level to promote their local cultural events, thereby capturing local residents’ attention, as well as developing healthy, fun and creative entertainment for local women.

Capturing attention of women

Between April and October 2023, the "Weekend Rendezvous" program launched by the Da Nang Women's Union took place seven times on the final Friday night of each month on Bach Dang Street in Hai Chau District.

The district-level chapter of the Da Nang Women's Union was tasked to host this program which carried the theme associated with significant historical events of the country, the city or the women’s association, such as "Remembering Uncle Ho" in May, "Love Bonding " in June, and "Red Flower" in July.

The program featured cultural exchanges, folk dance performances, cheraw dance, and fun quizzes.

Notably, apart from 7 choreographing popular dance songs from the Viet Nam Women's Union, the Da Nang Women's Union has composed a special song associated with the theme of each of the "Weekend Rendezvous" program.

So far this year, additional nine new songs composed by the Da Nang Women's Union has enriched the program in order to infuse it with freshness and excitement, thereby attracting a large numbers of women to participate.

The "Weekend Rendezvous" programme has resonated deeply with its female attendees, becoming a notable fixture among the city's extensive lineup of cultural and festival activities slated for both banks of the Han River in 2023.

As noted by Luong Thi Dao, the Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang Women's Union, the programme has been successful in capturing attention of the organization’s members, and fostering a sense of community, promoting the development of dance and sports activities across the city.

Currently, there are more than 640 folk dance clubs in the city, with the majority of members proficient in performing dances from the songbooks of both the Viet Nam and Da Nang Women’s Associations.

Inspired by the momentum of the folk dance movement, the Da Nang Women's Union has launched a project aimed at educating patriotic traditions for women, improving the quality of cultural and sports events, providing support for women’s development.

This well-timed project is expected to satisfy the immediate needs of municipal Women’s Union members, and ensure effective implementation of the "Building Vietnamese Women in the New Era" campaign.

Promoting the diversity of cultural events

In response to the burgeoning popularity of the folk dance movement, particularly the "Weekend Rendezvous" program launched by the Da Nang Women's Union, districts across the city has organized a similar event to create a healthy entertainment for local women.

In the Hoa Vang District, the "Weekend Meeting" program took place in April, August, and December that attracted hundreds of audience members in total.

The folk dance and sports movement has become a regular cultural and sporting event for Hoa Vang District’s women. It serves as a beneficial and wholesome recreational activity for local women after a day's work. Furthermore, the movement efficiently utilizes community houses, cultural centers, and public entertainment venues in villages and communes.

A combined total of 71 clubs and women's dance groups with 1,500 members have been established in Cam Le District.

The "Weekend Meeting" programme was hosted monthly by each of the district’s six wards from April to September.

Beyond the folk dance performances, each host unit staged their unique arts and sports performances, adding a unique charm to the programme, thereby fostering a stronger bond among Women’s Union members.

Following the resounding success of the "Weekend Meeting" program in Cam Le District in 2023, next year, the district aims to launch monthly programmes at ward-level. This initiative is expected to see the participation of individual wards and grassroots women's associations, thereby helping to promote the image of Da Nang’s women in the new era – healthy and able to fulfill their responsibilities towards themselves, their families and local communities.
