The campaign "Joining in with the Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) to cherish the earth - Making Da Nang a great green city" jointly launched by ACB and Eco Station has engaged hundreds of volunteers in collecting more than 4 tons of trash from Nguyen Tat Thanh and My Khe beaches, along with the Son Tra Peninsula just two months after launching. It is known that this regular meaningful activity is taking place in the city every Sunday morning to raise public awareness about environmental issues, and inspire them to take the leap into green living.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, a student of the Marketing Faculty at the Da Nang University of Economics said that she and her schoolmates have regularly participated in this meaningful campaign for more than a month. Instead of undergoing boredom at home on Sundays, Kim Ngan has chosen to go to the beach in the early morning to take her workout, watch the sunrise, and wait until the regulated time to join in with others to clean up trash at beach.

"As a university student, I am often busy with my studies during weekdays, so I can only participate in social activities on weekends. Therefore, the above-mentioned campaign is a suitable choice for me as I can make a little effort to protect the environment in Da Nang," Kim Ngan said.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Tuan Anh, a student of the Electronic Engineering Faculty at the Da Nang University of Technical Education has registered as a participant in the clean-up campaign after seeing an appeal to join in this meaningful activity on the Eco Station’s Facebook page.

Tuan Anh excitedly said: "Participating in this meaningful activity, I have the opportunity to set foot in very beautiful beaches on the Son Tra Peninsula, including Nam, Nom and  Obama beaches while collecting trash from these places for many hours. My first impression of this campaign is the active participation of many young foreigners. They are friendly and are willing to pick up trash at places that are difficult to access. In the next clean-up event, I will better prepare myself to be more confident to communicate with these foreigners."

Initiated in December 2023, the campaign "Joining in with ACB to cherish the earth - Making Da Nang a great green city" sets the goal of collecting about 4.5 tons of trash every month from local beaches and the Son Tra Peninsula.

It is known that the campaign has been launched and implemented through a form of socialization in an attempt to call for voluntary participation of local communities. Hence, the campaign’s participants are encouraged to prepare their own gloves, bags and trash collection tools. They are also encouraged to use their own vehicles to go to scheduled areas.

Mr. Dang Thai Tuan, the Co-Founder of the Eco Station, said that the Station’s regular cleanup events see active involvement of young people in Da Nang. Also according to Mr. Tuan, the clean-up campaign aims to raise environmental awareness in local communities, as well encourage young people to volunteer to help the environment in a bid to reduce pollution, conserve resources, and prevent damage to ecosystems. Till date, each cleanup event attracts more than 200 volunteers on average, most of whom are young people living and studying in Da Nang.

According to our observations of this campaign, the participants are ready to support each other while taking part in cleanup events with a fun atmosphere. They always bring trash to collection points where sanitation workers will take them to the Khanh Son Landfill.

Mr. Phan Minh Hai, the Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, highlighted the significance of beach cleanups in recent times in promoting Da Nang as a peaceful, clean and beautiful city to tourists.
