The Da Nang administration has just issued Official Dispatch No. 1954/UBND-STNMT dated April 15, 2024 requesting the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to direct the Department of Water Resources Management to continue coordinating with relevant units in Da Nang to closely monitor and urge hydroelectric reservoir owners to operate in accordance with inter-reservoir operating procedures in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin. The intention is to ensure adequate water supply for daily life, tourism and production activities, plus other purposes in the downstream area from now until the end of this year's dry season.

In cases where the water levels discharged by hydroelectric reservoirs are lower than that specified in the above process according to the requirements of ensuring electrical energy security, it is necessary to discharge water with a flow sufficient to maintain the Yen River water level upstream of the An Trach weir at no less than 1.6m in a bid to ensure safe water supply for Da Nang.

Previously, on April 12, the Da Nang People's Committee also issued Official Dispatch No. 1894/UBND-STNMT requesting owners of A Vuong, Song Bung 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, Song Bung 6 and Dak Mi 4 hydropower reservoirs to send a water discharge operation plan to the downstream area from April 29 - May 3, 2024 to coordinate in quickly and promptly handling issues related to water supply to the downstream area. The purpose is to absolutely ensure that there will be no water shortage during the upcoming tourist peak on the occasion of the April 30 and May 1 holidays.
