Previously, lack of street lights in two roads of more than 400m long connecting residential groups 2 and 3 of Nam Son Village, Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, was a major problem for road users, causing traffic insecurity. Many people took advantage of the darkness due to lack of streetlights to throw their trash indiscriminately along the road while property and pet theft occurred, causing loss of security and social order. In its efforts to solve the above-mentioned problem, the Youth Union Organization of the Da Nang Police Department deployed a VND 60 million street lighting project in July 2023 in a bid to install 14 street lighting posts to support residents of Nam Son Village.
Secretary of the Youth Union Organization of the Da Nang Police Department Ho Dinh Tri said that the unit carries out annually its ‘Lighting up rural roads’ project to meet the needs of residents in Hoa Vang District’s communes.
In 2021, the unit put into use street lights in a 270-meter long road in residential areas of Hoa Lien Commune. In 2022, street lights were installed on a 300- meter road in Hoa Son Commune and a 170- meter road in Hoa Nhon Commune. In 2024, heed will be paid to installing street lights in another commune in Hoa Vang District to support the locality in building new rural areas.
After 9 months of being put into use, an outdoor play area next to the Hoa Phu 1B Community House located in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District has attracted a large number of local children and people to play and practise sports.
Ms. Ho Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, the Secretary of Hoa Minh Ward’s Youth Union Organization, said that before this amusement park was built, this place used to be a vacant lot with overgrown plants and trees, where some local people threw their garbage secretly, causing environmental pollution. Therefore, the construction of the VND 200 million amusement park was completed in August 2023, with many fitness and sports equipment, swings, and slides installed to meet the entertainment needs of local adults and children. Thanks to that, public's environmental awareness has been raised, thereby ending littering and stopping illegal dumping.
According to Nguyen Duy Thanh, an official of the Da Nang Youth Union, since 2021, the organization has inaugurated 21 children's play areas across the city, at a total cost of VND 4.2 billion. After being put into use, the play areas create healthy, safe, and useful playgrounds for children and adults in the city, thereby educating the public to protect the environment, stop littering, as well as create green, clean and beautiful residential areas. In 2024, special attention will be paid to building two other outdoor children's play areas in the city.
Since March 2022, the Municipal Youth Union has launched the program ‘Read books about Uncle Ho - Learn and follow Uncle Ho’ for its member organizations throughout the city.
Accordingly, focus has been paid to creating an airy reading area and placing "Uncle Ho's bookshelf" to attract youth union members and young people to read and study. Moreover, importance has been attached to conducting research sessions, and opening discussions on books related to the life, revolutionary career, and contributions of President Ho Chi Minh.
Recently, Youth Union organization of Hai Chau District created a reading corner and digital space named "Uncle Ho and teenagers" which is located at the office of the District’s Youth Union Organization. This place is decorated with green trees and equipped with hundreds of books on history, geography, and culture, plus those about Uncle Ho, the Youth Union organization in order to meet reading needs and improve knowledge of children.
In the coming time, the Municipal Youth Union will donate 2 children's libraries to schools in the city. Besides, high priority will be given to encouraging grassroots Youth Union organizations to continue creating book spaces and organizing activities, conducting research, and increasing sharing of books and newspapers to improve knowledge for youth union members and young people across the city.
Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Youth Union Nguyen Thi Anh Thao highlighted huge efforts the city’s Youth Union organizations have made to carry out many meaningful youth projects for benefits of the community. These projects have created highlights for the city, and have been praised by local government and people as they have met the actual needs of local communities.
