Improving quality of natural environment
With the potential and advantages of landscape, natural environment and tourism products, Da Nang’s Son Tra District has developed and implemented the project "Improving the quality of the natural environment in Son Tra District over the 2021-2025 period" to create a green, clean, beautiful and fresh landscape and natural environment, serving both locals and tourists.

Garbage collection in the district has had many positive changes since the Son Tra garbage transfer station was put into operation with a maximum capacity of 200 tonnes/day in April 2023.
In particular, the emergence of temporary waste transfer and collection points along the roads has been fundamentally resolved, ending the situation of too much waste not being collected in time.
Currently, 180 - 230 tonnes of dmoestic waste are collected in the entire district every day. When the amount of waste generated exceeds 200 tonnes/day, the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC flexibly transfers them to the Garbage Transfer Station on Le Thanh Nghi Street or directly to the Khanh Son Landfill. The district has deployed the household waste management application in associations and organisations to well coordinate in monitoring waste collection activities, reporting information on service quality, and transferring recyclable waste.
Between 2021 and 2024, 1,379 general environmental cleaning campaigns were launched in the district, attracting more than 118,900 people and members of associations and organisations. 1,038 times of general cleaning by motor vehicles were held at locations where illegal waste was often collected, vacant land, and on sparsely populated roads.
Besides, the district organised 322 training sessions to disseminate the Law on Environmental Protection, and legal regulations on environmental protection, solid waste management, waste classification at source, and anti-plastic waste, with more than 28,174 participants.
The district’s Office of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with schools to organise many communication and education activities for pupils on environmental protection, nature conservation and biodiversity in many forms, contributing to positively impacting the awareness and actions of parents and their children on environmental protection, waste classification, and resource saving.
Waste classification activities were regularly implemented in residential areas by authorities in the district. The district invested in many necessary equipment and distributes them to localities, residential areas, associations, unions, schools, etc. to serve environmental protection activities.
Forty-five 2-compartment landscape trash bins were arranged at public parks on the eastern banks of Tran Thi Ly and Nguyen Van Troi bridges, and along the sidewalk on the west side of Tran Hung Dao Street, to serve tourism activities. 243 recyclable trash bins, and 90 garbage collection carts, were distributed to residential areas, religious establishments, and schools to serve garbage classification activities. 170 battery houses were distributed to residential areas, apartment buildings, and public areas, aimed at mobilising people to collect waste batteries. 1,000 mesh bags were distributed to localities, associations, and organisations to encourage people to use them instead of plastic bags when going to the market, and 600 large mesh bags for mobilising fishermen to bring garbage to shore.
As a result, in 2024, up to 66.9 tonnes of plastic waste, 64.8 tonnes of metal, 137.1 tonnes of paper and 700 kg of hazardous waste were collected across the district.
In addition to maintaining 11,858 urban trees on 229 roads, the district focused on managing and operating the green tree system in parks and walking gardens, as well as receiving and planting 7,558 urban trees.
Regarding biodiversity conservation, the district organised 19 mobile propaganda campaigns on legal regulations on wildlife protection, forest fire prevention and fighting in residential areas and on the Son Tra Peninsula.
In addition, the district directed the interdisciplinary team to organise forest protection patrols and forest fire prevention around the Son Tra Peninsula.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Viet, Vice Chairman of Son Tra District People's Committee informed that in 2025, the district will strengthen the implementation of solutions to complete the goals and tasks of the project "Improving the quality of the natural environment in Son Tra District in the 2021-2025 period" to create a green, clean, beautiful and fresh landscape and natural environment, serving people and tourists.
Accordingly, the district will continue to organise propaganda, education and guidance activities on environmental protection, waste classification, and anti-plastic waste among pupils, students, and people in residential areas, in order to create changes in awareness and action; promote waste classification; and replicate models of classification, separate collection of hazardous waste, and treatment of organic waste.
At the same time, importance will be attached to ensuring environmental sanitation, promptly collecting and transporting waste generated at festivals and events; building green, clean, beautiful street models, and environmentally friendly residential areas; strengthening inspection and supervision of environmental protection; effectively utilising support sources from domestic and foreign organisations and localities; and socialising environmental protection work.
