The summit has been delayed twice in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Phnom Penh Post on October 13 quoted Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luy David as saying that PM Hun Sen has sent invitations to attend the summit to 52 leaders of ASEM countries, and 14 leaders have accepted the invitation. Cambodia expects to receive replies from other leaders during the month before the summit.
Under the theme “Strengthening Multilateralism for Shared Growth”, the 13th ASEM Summit will discuss managing the challenges posed by COVID-19 and quickening economic recovery after the pandemic.
David said Cambodia has prepared three documents to be submitted to the summit for approval, including a Phnom Penh Statement on the Post-Covid-19 Socio-Economic Recovery.
