Speaking at the online event, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh expressed his joy that 2024 was the year to celebrate the 15th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two cities (2009-2024).

Japan is always a strategic partner of the city in many fields. It is the leading country among a total of 40 countries and territories investing in Da Nang, he added.

Chairman Chinh took the opportunity to ask for support from Mayor of Sakai City Nagafuji Hideki to implement the carbon neutral seaport (CNP) development project as soon as possible; as well as appeal for more Japanese businesses and investors to invest in Da Nang in aspects of semiconductor, startups and innovation.

He hoped that the two localities will continue to organise cultural and educational exchange activities in the coming time, thereby contributing to deepening the friendship between Japan and Viet Nam in general, and Sakai and Da Nang in particular.

Also at the online meeting, Da Nang shared its experience in international integration to expand international cooperation and economic development with the goal of being the growth nucleus of the central key economic region.

In recent years, Da Nang has successfully hosted many international events such as the 5th Asian Beach Games, APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2017, Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, and Asian Golf Tournament.

For his part, Mayor Nagafuji Hideki introduced to Da Nang the Japanese city’s initiatives, skills and experience in international event organisation to attract more domestic and foreign tourists.

He informed that the Sakai Festival, held every October, attracted many domestic and foreign tourists. At the festival, Vietnamese culinary stalls selling ‘banh mi’, ‘pho’ and lion dance performances drew much attention from visitors.

He suggested the authorities of Sakai and Da Nang cities organise more cultural exchange events to strengthen the friendship between the two countries and two cities.

As for the CNP development project, the Sakai government is ready to support Da Nang with advanced technical equipment combined with the use of clean energy sources to reduce carbon emissions, helping Da Nang achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2050.

Also, the Japanese city is willing to cooperate with Da Nang to train high-quality human resources for the local semiconductor field, as well as introduce Japanese investors and businesses to visit Da Nang to seek investment opportunities.
